The fact that Reolink doesn't provide an easy way to use (all of) their cameras offline (or behind a VPN) is because they potentially have a different interest.Īll being said, I have multiple Reolink cameras and NVR, but I am disappointed at ONVIF support and lack of usability for slefhosters and privacy aware people. I own Reolink cameras and also "hack" them to get access to video feeds of wifi cameras which do not provide that natively (so I need to use this). There is too much to be gained by having access to cameras by lots of different entities. After some of those there were firmware upgrades, but nobody can convince me that their cameras (or any other manufacturer tbh) are unhackable. There are multiple proofs online that Reolink cameras have been hacked. There is no real e2e encryption and "encryption" is easily breachable. Which means video could be accessed easily if you know UID and credentials or if there is a backdoor. Reolink uses a method of hole punching which enables remote access even without opening any ports.
Take a look at Xiaomi phones for instance (I own one). Usually when product is cheap then it tries to get data to use/sell.
