To give his people knowledge of salvation*

You, my child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High,*įor you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,
All things done in darkness free#
To set us free from the hands of our enemies, This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham,* He promised to show mercy to our fathers* Through his holy prophets he promised of old, He has raised up for us a mighty savior,* He has come to his people and set them free. ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom,Īnd to turn away from evil is understanding.’” ‘We have heard a rumor of it with our ears.’Īnd a way for the lightning of the thunder, Nor can it be exchanged for jewels of fine gold.ġ8 No mention shall be made of coral or of crystal ġ9 The topaz of Ethiopia cannot equal it,Ģ1 It is hidden from the eyes of all living They hang in the air, far away from mankind they swing to and fro.ĥ As for the earth, out of it comes bread,īut underneath it is turned up as by fire.ġ1 He dams up the streams so that they do not trickle,Īnd the thing that is hidden he brings out to light.Īnd it is not found in the land of the living.Īnd silver cannot be weighed as its price.ġ6 It cannot be valued in the gold of Ophir, The seas and everything that moves in them.Īnd people shall dwell there and possess it ģ6 the offspring of his servants shall inherit it,Īnd those who love his name shall dwell in it.Ĥ He opens shafts in a valley away from where anyone lives

You who seek God, let your hearts revive.Īnd does not despise his own people who are prisoners. Let your salvation, O God, set me on high!ģ0 I will praise the name of God with a song ģ1 This will please the LORD more than an oxģ2 When the humble see it they will be glad Let them not be enrolled among the righteous. 16 Answer me, O LORD, for your steadfast love is good Īccording to your abundant mercy, turn to me.įor I am in distress make haste to answer me.Īnd for my thirst they gave me sour wine to drink.Ģ2 Let their own table before them become a snare Īnd when they are at peace, let it become a trap.Ģ3 Let their eyes be darkened, so that they cannot see,Īnd make their loins tremble continually.Īnd let your burning anger overtake them.Ģ6 For they persecute him whom you have struck down,Īnd they recount the pain of those you have wounded.Ģ7 Add to them punishment upon punishment Ģ8 Let them be blotted out of the book of the living
